MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent

Product history

This page provides information about the major new features and enhancements introduced in the latest as well as in the past releases of MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent 2019, Version 5

Support for Linux operating systems.
In addition to MS Windows, SNMP Proxy Agent is now readily available also for 64-bit (x86_64) Linux operating systems (RHEL 6.6+, CentOS 6.6+, Debian 8+, Ubuntu 14.04+).
IP range based SNMP proxy mechanism.
Besides the port-based proxying where SNMP Proxy Agent listens for SNMP packets on different ports on (typically) one IP address, the software now supports also IP-based proxying. The latter means that SNMP Proxy Agent adds new IPv4 and/or IPv6 addresses to the system and listens on these addresses for incoming SNMP requests (e.g., on port 161). The software forwards received SNMP requests to end destinations and conveys SNMP response and trap messages in the opposite direction, automatically performing the basic network address translation (NAT). The application user interface has been extended to allow creating multiple proxy rules that bind to different addresses and ports with ease.
Support for HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols in SNMPv3 USM.
The SNMPv3 User-based Security Model in SNMP Proxy Agent now supports modern HMAC-SHA-2 family of authentication protocols for USM (RFC 7860). The HMAC-SHA-2 authentication protocols provide a higher level of security than original HMAC-MD5-96 and HMAC-SHA-96 authentication protocols specified in RFC 3414. The newly supported authentication protocols are: HMAC- SHA-2-224, HMAC-SHA-2-256, HMAC-SHA-2-384 and HMAC-SHA-2-512.
Support for AES-192, AES-256 and 3DES privacy protocols in SNMPv3 USM.
In addition to the standard CBC-DES and CFB-AES-128 privacy protocols, the SNMPv3 User-based Security Model in SNMP Proxy Agent now supports also the CFB-AES-192, CFB-AES-256 and CBC- 3DES privacy protocols. These encryption protocols offer stronger security, especially when used in combination with the HMAC-SHA-2 family of authentication protocols.
Managing local network interfaces and IP addresses.
The new Network Interface Manager window lets you view all local network interfaces and associated IP addresses. It also allows you to add new IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to interfaces and manually remove IP addresses or enable automatic removal of unused IP addresses.
Improved application performance and stability.
Many optimizations and performance improvements have been implemented both, in SNMP Proxy Agent service and GUI part of the application. Additionally, all known issues in previous versions have been fixed and overall stability and reliability of the software has been improved.
Enhanced documentation.
Updated and extended user manual with numerous hints and usage examples will help you get the most out of MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent.
Besides, a number of minor improvements have been implemented and all known problems occurring in older versions have been fixed for this release.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent 2017, Version 4

Support for MS Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10.
SNMP Proxy Agent now successfully installs and runs also on the most recent Microsoft Windows operating systems.
64-bit build of the application leverages the power of modern computers.
In addition to 32-bit version, MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent is now available also in 64-bit version (x86_64 architecture), which runs natively on 64-bit Windows operating systems and can utilize significantly more memory. This makes the software even more powerful, especially in configurations where a high number of proxy rules are needed.
DPI-aware GUI for best user experience on modern displays (UHD/4K-ready).
SNMP Proxy Agent Configurator application is now "aware" of the system display DPI settings and automatically scales the size of its GUI components (dialogs, buttons, icons) and text accordingly, to achieve the best visibility and usability also on today's high pixel density (HiDPI) displays.
Improved application performance and stability.
Many optimizations and performance improvements have been implemented both, in SNMP Proxy Agent service and GUI part of the application. Additionally, all known issues in previous versions have been fixed and overall stability and reliability of the software has been improved.
Enhanced documentation.
Fully updated and enhanced user manual with numerous hints and usage examples will help you get the most from MG-SOFT SNMP Agent Simulator.
Besides, a number of minor improvements have been implemented and all known problems occurring in older versions have been fixed for this release.

What's New in MG-SOFT SNMP Proxy Agent 2014, Version 3

Support for MS Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.x.
SNMP Proxy Agent now successfully installs and runs also on the most recent Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Completely rewritten and redesigned graphical user interface (GUI).
The SNMP Proxy Agent Configurator management console graphical user interface (GUI) has been rewritten from the scratch to make it more intuitive, user-friendly, efficient and portable. The GUI now offers a better overview and easier handling of proxy forwarding rules with status symbols providing a visual feedback when the rules are created and tested. The new user interface incorporates all standard and many advanced operations, like adding multiple proxy rules at a time, enabling/disabling rules, sorting rules by any column, searching for and filtering rules, etc.
Create multiple new rules at a time for increased productivity.
SNMP Proxy Agent Configurator now lets you easily create multiple proxy rules for forwarding SNMP requests or SNMP notifications. Each rule will instruct SNMP Proxy Agent to listen on a different port and forward SNMP messages to a different IP address and/or port from the user-specified range. This functionality can significantly speed up the process of configuring the software and proves to be indispensable when a large number of devices are managed through SNMP Proxy Agent.
Permanent communication between SNMP Proxy Agent GUI and service.
SNMP Proxy Agent Configurator now permanently communicates with the SNMP Proxy Agent Service to let you apply all the configuration changes without restarting the service, to view the service status and to control it (start, stop, restart).
Search and filter functionality.
SNMP Proxy Agent Configurator now lets you search for and filter proxy forwarding rules to quickly find and display only the rules that match the filter criteria.
