Filtering SNMP notifications
|
|
MG-SOFT Trap Ringer Professional Edition lets you configure filters for
receiving only those notification messages that match the filter conditions.
You can add any number of filters to output units (Console, Mail, Command, Log, etc.),
where each filter contains one or more filter conditions. The intuitive and user-friendly
interface for configuring filter conditions lets you configure complex filter
conditions in a straightforward manner. Configured filters can be saved to files
and later assigned to other output units.

Creating filters from received SNMP notifications
|
|
Trap Ringer now lets you select a received SNMP notification in the main window
and run the filter wizard to create a filter for receiving or blocking SNMP
notifications that have the same attributes in no time. The wizard automatically
creates the filter conditions that match the attributes of the selected notification
and offers you the option to edit them (step 1). To complete the wizard,
simply choose the output unit (e.g., Mail, SMS, Log, etc.) to which you want to
attach the filter (step 2).

Trap Ringer can load any number of standard and private MIB modules that were
previously compiled with the enclosed MG-SOFT MIB Compiler. Loaded MIB modules
are used for interpreting the meaning of received SNMP notifications, i.e., to
identify received SNMP trap and inform notifications by their names, to resolve
variable binding's OIDs and certain values to names, to display properties of OIDs
in the Trap Details lower window panel, etc.

Forwarding and translating SNMP notifications
|
|
In addition to performing diverse user notifying and logging
operations, Trap Ringer can also act as the SNMP notification
proxy forwarder, meaning that it can forward received SNMP
notification messages to other SNMP managers on the network.
Moreover, it can also translate received SNMP notification
messages and forward them as SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 Trap
messages, or as SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 Inform messages. Optionally,
Trap Ringer can append additional variable bindings to all outgoing SNMP
notifications, carrying the information about the notifications's
original source address and community name (when applicable).
